Midlands State University student Bongani Dlakama (23) beat 23 other contestants to emerge Miss Bulawayo 2011 at a beauty pageant held at a local hotel on Friday night.
Precious Dube (23) was named first runner-up while Valerie Chingonzo (20) was the second runner-up.
Anita Neshiri (19) landed the Miss Personality title while the Best Costume catergory went to 19-year-old Shamilla Sibanda.
"I am so delighted to be crowned Miss Bulawayo tonight and I am grateful to everyone who has assisted and encouraged me to take part in this contest," said an excited Dlakama.
For her feat, Dlakama walked away with an undisclosed amount of cash, a holiday for two in Nyanga, a lounge suite, grocery vouchers, a palm top and a professional course of her own choice at a local college.
She takes over from Nadia Gori who unfortunately was not present to hand over the crown to her successor as she is in Malaysia where she is representing the country at the Miss Tourism International pageant.
The catwalk event, which ran under the theme "Celebrating Colour", saw the models taking to the ramp in three categories namely swim wear, evening wear and the theme wear in the process parading a galaxy of wonderful fashion colours.
In an interview, pageant patron Sarah Mpofu of Fingers Modelling Agency said she was impressed with the way the event was organised.
She thanked different organisations for sponsoring the event.
"We have the best prizes for our models and I would like to thank those who made this event a success," she said.
Former Miss World 1981 semi-finalist Juliet Nyathi was the guest of honour at the event.
The city's most coveted pageant was well attended by the who-is-who of Bulawayo, former beauty queens and Miss Zimbabwe Trust.
An after party was held at a city club where revellers had the chance to mix and mingle with the models.
The audience was left in stitches during the question and answer segment as most models struggled to answer some questions deemed to be easy.
Nicole Charlie (20), a teacher by profession, gave the dumbest answer after she was asked on what solutions she would offer to the Bulawayo community in combating the effects of global warming if she were crowned Miss Bulawayo and she said: "I would tell them to move to a better place," leaving the audience in stitches.
Another model was asked why she wanted to be crowned Miss Bulawayo and she said she felt she deserved to win because she knew Bulawayo like the back of her hand, shocking the audience.
Entertainment at the show came from local dance groups, Antivirus, Harsh Touch and Amakhosi Dream to Fame 2011 winners Explosion and popular Harare based urban groove artiste, Ngoni Kambarami.
Bulawayo has over the years churned out talented beauty queens, the likes of Samantha Tshuma, Lorraine Maphala, Oslie Muringai, Caroline Marufu and lately the controversial Lungile Mathe.
