Utakataka express security boys are reported to have been severely beaten by revellers in Guruve at Chivavaya night club after their boss Peter Moyo delayed to start the show.

The show, which was billed to start at 20:00hrs started at around 21:00hrs with a Harare band curtain raising for a few hours before being given marching orders by the furious fans who demanded Peter Moyo.

All hell broke loose after midnight when they did not see Peter Moyo on stage. The revelers charged at the security responsible for cash collection demanding their cash back.

One of the security personnel, Blessing Mauye (30), cheated death after he was bashed by the mob before being surrendered to Guruve police.

Two police officers who were deployed to the show were also on the receiving end and they had to seek refuge at the station charge office after revelers demanded their money back.

Some of the Utakataka band members used pepper spray to disperse the furious crowd. Most of the people reportedly fell unconscious and had to be have buckets of water poured on them to help them gain consciousness.

When Peter finally arrived at around 01:00hours, people destroyed doors to gain free entry into the club.

Since the police had been over powered in the skirmishes, Ukatakaka had no choice than to perform for free.

Meanwhile, club owner and music promoter explained to Bulawayo24.com that the delay was due to a minor accident that Peter was involved in along the 50km peg Mvurwi-Guruve highway.

"There was just communication breakdown, Peter hit a pothole resulting in the air bags of his car bursting.

"People should have been told it was an accident and understand not to respond violently," explained Chivavaya.

Some of the revellers, chief among them artisanal miners (makorokoza\gweja), accused young Igwe of being a womaniser.

"We want our money back, why do you mix business with prostitution. Nothing of the accident sort happened, he was locked up with thigh vendors!" they shouted.
