Tuku, Ismael Lo to perform at this year's HIFA

Top Senegalese music icon Ismael Lo will grace this year's Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA) while Zimbabwean legend Oliver Mtukudzi is also expected to perform, the weeklong festival organisers have announced.
HIFA which is being held under the theme --"A show of spirit" officially opens on May 1 and ends on May 6 as the arts and music extravaganza commemorates its 13th year since its inception in 1999.
Ismael Lo will perform on the main stage on May 5.
"The harmonica-playing guitarist Ismael Lô, better known to world music fans as the "African Bob Dylan", has revolutionised the traditional sound of Senegalese M'balax, melding it with a more melodic, laid-back style bordering on Rhythm'n'Blues," HIFA wrote of Ishmael Lo.
"Rocketing to fame with his hit single Tajabone, Iso went on to sign a recording deal with Polygram and then launched a highly successful international career. Today his distinctive fusion of M'balax, folk and blues is not just enjoyed by a select group of world music connoisseurs but highly popular with audiences all over the world."
"Truly, an African music icon, we are proud to welcome Ismael back to HIFA for one magical concert,"HIFA added.
HIFA a six day annual festival showcases the very best of Zimbabwean, regional and international arts and culture in a comprehensive programme of theatre, dance, music, circus, street performance, spoken word, craft and visual arts.
The festival brings together social and cultural groups of Zimbabweans to celebrate the healing and constructive capacity of the arts.
"We are celebrating the capacity of arts to impart courage, compassion and determination, and calling on our audience to boldly embrace the creative force within all of us," HIFA said.
Mtukudzi, 60, arguably the best music artist in Zimbabwe for the past years will perform at HIFA on May 6 at the Telecel main stage.
"Oliver Mtukudzi is Zimbabwe's biggest selling artist â€" a giant of African pop worldwide â€" whose music has been the soundtrack for so many of our lives growing up and living in Zimbabwe over the last 3 decades," HIFA said.
"We present this concert as a celebration of everything that 'Tuku' is for all of us as a nation and to honour his 60th birthday this year."
HIFA sponsors include the following banks ---BancABC, CABS, Stanbic and NMB. Other sponsors are Norwegian embassy, British Council, Zimbabwe Germany Society, US embassy, Allaince Francaise,European Union, IwayAfrica, Delloitte, Coca Cola and Zimbabwe Germany Society.
Founded by Manuel Bagorro, HIFA has brought prominent artists and musicians over the years. In 2012 Malian singer and legend Salif Keita performed while Bongo Maffin of South where the main act in 2003.
