Oliver Mtukudzi's maiden gig for this year at Andy Millar Hall was a disappointment after a small crowd turned up, despite having a stellar line up of performers who included Suluman Chimbetu, Munya Mataruse and high-riding Jah Prayzah.

An estimated 1 500 fans went to Andy Millar Hall for the show, a fugure way below expectations.

In an interview with The Herald, some fans said Tuku had over 50 albums up his sleeves, but there was something wrong with his playlist.

"At times he doesn't play what we want to hear or he plays laid-back songs when you are in the mood to dance," one fan said.

A big fan of Mtukudzi, Munyaradzi Masaraneyi, said he was torn between AFCON and his music idol.

"I didn't attend the show because I knew there was going to be another show soon in Harare so I opted to watch football at home," he said.

Another fan said Tuku's weekend gig was affected by poor marketing.

"We only got to know about the show as we were passing through the Harare Showgrounds," he said.

Despite the poor turnout, the musicians gave their best in song and dance.

Suluman's dancer Franco "Slomo" Dhaka joined Mtukudzi in his classic katekwe dance. You would be forgiven for thinking that Franco had replaced Piki Kasamba, Mtukudzi's former band member but No!

Franco is just a talented dancer who immitates anyone.

Jazz crooner Bob Nyabinde who was at the show joined Mtukudzi on stage as well as Watson Chimbodza of Pakare Paye Arts Centre.
