Sungura ace Alick Macheso, who just returned from the United Kingdom, is scheduled to fly off to Ethiopia soon to grace the African Union (AU) celebrations to be held in Addis Ababa on April 26.

The sungura superstar is expected to share the stage with some of Africa's top musicians during the two-day event that will end on April 28.

Orchestra Mberikwazvo band manager William Tsandukwa told the Daily News that Macheso was looking forward to his maiden trip to the city of the AU headquarters.

"The Ethiopia trip which is the band's debut trip to this country is being promoted by Zimbabwe's ministry of Foreign Affairs," said Tsandukwa.

"We are billed to perform for this event which will run for two days," said Tsandukwa.

He said the sungura star and his group would make the best of the platform provided by the important AU event.

"We are happy to join Africa's best musicians and are going to do our level best to represent the country with distinction because it will increase our fan base," said Tsandukwa.

The Orchestra Mberikwazvo manager said the Tafadzwa hit-maker, who will travel with a full band, will take the opportunity to market his latest and ninth album Kwatakabva Mitunhu (Kure Kwekure).

"Most of this year's shows are meant to market our latest album and we hope fans there are going to fall in love with our sungura type of music," he said.

Tsandukwa also revealed that before leaving for Ethiopia, Macheso will perform at the Zimbabwe Independence celebrations.
