PROLIFIC Bulawayo actress, Precious Makhulumo plays Queen Lozikeyi while South African actor, Boy Ngema is King Lobengula in the play Inyelane billed for the International Student Drama Festival in London.

Inyelane is a play written by veteran playwright Cont Mhlanga.

The play to be stage by Amakhosi Arts Academy students, is among the plays from across the globe, which have been short-listed for the annual festival.

In an interview the Director of Amakhosi Cont Mhlanga said Makhulumo and Ngema will be the main characters in the play.

Boy Ngema is young brother to veteran Jazz musician Mbongeni Ngema.

He is expected to co-direct the play. Mhlanga said the project will re-affirm Amakhosi's position as one of the leading arts academies in the region.

"This project will reaffirm Amakhosi's Arts Academy brand as one of the most prestigious in the region and for us at the academy this is very exciting. All we have to do now is to put up a unique show that will be able to compete to get a space as part of the London 2012 international shows," he said.

The UK-based international selectors will be in Zimbabwe on 3 March 2012 to watch the play Inyelane. Mhlanga said the project was a major boost for film students, as they would learn a lot from the experience.

"This opportunity will provide our students with a wonderful learning experience as they seek to establish themselves in the arts industry," he said.

Ngema is expected in December before full rehearsals begin in January.

The International Drama Festival is a nine-day celebration of young people's theatre.
