Studio 263 director Godwin Mawuru dies

It is a sad day for the Zimbabwe film industry following the death of veteran director Godwin Mawuru.
Mawuru passed away on Friday morning, 3-mob reported.
According to his brother Owen, Godwin passed out a few weeks ago and was hospitalised and was unfortunately not able to make a full recovery.
He was diabetic.
Mawuru was born in 1961. After being involved in theater for several years, Mawuru began working as an actor and scriptwriter for film and television. His directorial debut, Neria (1992), earned him the OAU award for Best Director at the Carthage Film Festival. I Am the Future (1994), his second feature film, was produced by Kubi Indi, a local businesswoman who made history in being a female producer, heralding a new era of film production in Zimbabwe. He was also the director of Zimbabwe's longest running soap Studio 263.
