My Own Boss kicked off on Friday with 44 contestants being given tasks by businessman Philip Chiyangwa.
The entrepreneurial reality show, now in its fifth season, requires contestants to come up with ideas on how to make money and run successful businesses.
Simanga Zhou, the executive producer of the show which is aired on ZBC-TV told the Daily News that all the contestants will walk away with varying prizes this year.
"Each contestant regardless of whether they win or not will get a $5 000 loan, which will enable them to start up their business," said Zhou.
"The first prize is $25 000, second $15 000 and third is $10 000. The fourth-placed contestant will walk away with $7 500 with the fifth taking home $6 000.
"Funds will be disbursed as and when they are needed and we will be monitoring the contestants for a year to see how they use the funds," added the My Own Boss executive producer.
The official launch date for this season's reality show is August 31.
The tasks that Chiyangwa gave the contestants are all geared towards raising funds for the reality show and should be completed before the launch date.
"The task is for fundraising money to be deposited into the show's account. Each one of you is required to go back to the area that they stay and think of ways to raise money.
"You can work with local businesses or anyone and that is where we will see the real entrepreneurs," Zhou told the 44 contestants on Friday.
"This will determine the selection process and we do not want to use nepotism or favoritism but we want to judge by everyone's performance. Only 22 contestants will be selected from the 44."
