South Africa - A Sannieshof police officer shot his wife while their 8-year-old daughter was in the house, then turned the gun on himself in the early hours of Thursday morning, North West police said.
"A 38-year-old constable allegedly shot his wife twice in each thigh after an argument, using his service pistol," Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said in a statement.
"I am not sure where the daughter was, but she could have witnessed her father shooting her mother."
The 36-year-old woman fled through the bedroom window with the child to look for help.
"A shot was heard and the constable was found with a single bullet wound to the head," Ngubane said.
The man was certified dead on the scene and his wife was admitted to hospital for medical treatment.
