Zimbabwe's Consul–General in South Africa, Henry Mukonoweshuro says discussions are still underway with South African government on the way forward regarding Zimbabwean special dispensation visas.

In a telephone interview, Mukonoweshuro said most of the Zimbabweans who got their work permits and visas under the special dispensation which was negotiated by the two governments are concerned whether they will be allowed to extend their permits while in South Africa and if they will be granted permanent residence for those who have stayed in that country for over 5 years.

Under the Zimbabwe Special Dispensation Permit, the expiry of the special dispensation permit is on the 31st of December 2017 and those requiring to stay in South Africa are required to go back home and apply for mainstream visas and permits under the Immigration Act.

Thousands of Zimbabweans are working and living in South Africa and are contributing to the socio-economic growth of that country in various sectors including health, education and construction.
