Foreign learners at a South African school, Eastleigh Primary School risk being kicked out on Monday if they do not have proper documents.

According to a letter dated February 22 and dispatched to parents, authorities say they had a meeting with the Home Affairs department officials on February 17.

"Please note there are instructions that were given to us by them. " All learners documents have to be up to date.

"All parents documents have to be up to date.

"Every parent needs to bring in the documents to be verified, as we have some fraudulent documents" reads part of the letter seen by Bulawayo24.com

It was not immediately clear whether there are Zimbabwean pupils at the school.

Sources close to the development said Home Affairs officials held a meeting with school principals and stressed that "it is the responsibility of the principals to enroll kids who are documented.

"Failure to do that, the principal is liable to pay R25 000 fine per child if the child is undocumented or has fraudulent documents. Home Affairs said government schools can not enroll undocumented foreign kids".

This comes at a time when foreigners with no documentation are under threat in South Africa.

On Thursday, Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba told a media conference that unethical businesses that employ illegal immigrants are going to be dealt with harshly and managers will be arrested for not adhering to the law.
