Police evacuated the Westgate shopping centre in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg, following a bomb threat on Thursday afternoon
Lieutenant Colonel Tshisikhawe Ndou said a shop in the centre received a phone call warning that a bomb had been placed on its premises.
"Police rushed there. The bomb disposal unit and the dog unit swept through the centre but found nothing," he said.
The centre was evacuated but things returned to normal after about half an hour, said Ndou.
Anyone with knowledge of the bomb threat can call the police toll-free number 08600 1011 to offer information.
