Woman accused of poisoning in-laws to apply for bail

A South Africa woman from the Mpumalanga province who is being accused of poisoning three of her in-laws is scheduled to apply for bail on Wednesday.
Nomsa Khoza, 29, from Mzinti Village outside Malalane near the Mozambican and Swaziland borders, was not asked to plead when she appeared in the Tonga Magistrate's Court on charges of murder and attempted murder on January 3.
"The suspect was arrested after police rescued her from angry community members who were assaulting her following the poisoning of her in-laws," said Tonga police spokesperson Sergeant Mzwandile Nyambi.
Nyambi said the incident happened on December 26.
He said Khoza's in-laws, Martha Ngcane, 54, Elizabeth Khoza, 58, and Ben Khoza, 20, fell ill after eating pudding believed to have been prepared by the suspect.
He said police believe that Ngcane, who is the suspect's mother-in-law, was given pudding at her home at about 08:30.
After she ate the pudding, her son Ben and her sister Elizabeth arrived and were served the same pudding.
"The three were rushed to hospital when they started vomiting. Unfortunately, Ngcane was declared dead on arrival," said Nyambi.
Nyambi said that back at the house, community members apprehended the suspect and assaulted her.
He said police rescued her from the angry mob and rushed her to hospital where she was treated for injuries before being sent to custody.
