Durban, South Africa - A young girl has lost three toes and a part of her foot after a horrific accident on an escalator at an Amanzimtoti mall.
Mishke Roux, 6, was at the South Coast shopping mall with her mother on Sunday when her foot caught in the escalator. She was barefoot, reported the Daily News.
According to her mother, Mariska Roux, no one from the shopping centre came to help them and attempts to stop the escalator were unsuccessful.
The child was rushed to hospital where three of her toes and a part of her foot had to be amputated.
A mall spokesperson said however that this was untrue, and that CCTV footage showed the mall's operations manager being on the scene within minutes.
The spokesperson also said there were signs all over the mall warning people not to walk barefoot on the escalator.
