OSLO, Norway -- Football tragedy in Egypt

"I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Egyptian authorities and the people of Egypt for the tragic incident at the football stadium in Port Said yesterday evening. My thoughts go especially to those who have lost their loved ones," said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

At least 74 people were killed and many hundred injured when rioting broke out during and after a football match in the Egyptian port city of Port Said.

"After such a tragedy, it is essential to find out more about what happened. I hope an independent investigation into the causes of this tragic incident can be carried out swiftly," said Mr Støre.
