President Mubarak has announced that he will stay in power until the next presidential election. He will not run for the presidency at that time. This will be until September.
"I am so proud of this generation that is asking for a better life," he said.
He then spoke of young martyrs who had lost their lives during the protests.
"I will punish those who have committed crimes against our youth.
"My respect to your demands is a fact I cannot go back on. This comes from being convinced of your honesty, and your demands must be fulfilled.
"I would not accept at all to listen to anything dictated by another country... To the youth of this country I confirm that I will not run for president again, but I will stay in power for the transition."
