Johannesburg - A 38-year-old South African man was sentenced on Wednesday to 16 years imprisonment for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and two counts of rape, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
"The man, who cannot be named, was sentenced by the High Court sitting in KwaDukuza to seven years for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and a total of 31 years imprisonment on two counts of rape," said Captain Thulani Zwane.
"He will only serve 16 years in jail as the other sentences will run concurrently. He will further not get a parole before he serves 10 years of his sentence."
Zwane said the man was arrested after he raped and assaulted his 32-year-old wife on October 24 2011, at their house in Wasbank.
"Her hands and legs were tied up with a rope and he burnt her thighs with a hot iron," Zwane said
