Johannesburg - A minibus tax accident killed six people, including a 5-year-old child, were killed and five were seriously injured when it rolled on South Africa's N1 near Nasrec on Monday morning, Johannesburg emergency services said.
"The taxi rolled and four patients were found about 17 metres away from where the taxi was," said spokesperson Synock Matobako.
One of the injured said the passengers in the taxi were sangomas on their way to a ritual in Zandspruit. Matobako said two goats and a chicken were also inside the taxi. The goats were killed in the accident.
"We are appealing to motorists... we are seeing people dying in numbers. It didn't hit a car, it didn't hit anything, it just rolled."
Metro police Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said traffic was heavily affected in the area and one lane had been closed off.
The driver has been charged with culpable homicide.
