Police in Malawi report that on Thursday night they arrested seven illegal Zimbabwean nationals claiming to be 'DJs' in Blantyre.
According to the Southern Region Police Spokesperson, Nicholas Gondwa, the raid was carried out in the city mainly to weed out foreigners who came into the country illegally.
In total, eight illegal immigrants were arrested, one Mozambique national and seven Zimbabwean nationals.
"We have managed to arrest the eight foreigners who happened to be staying in one house at Kameza along the Zalewa Road.
"The tip that police got from the surrounding residents, was that they (illegal immigrants) were nine, living together. But by the time we went to the house, only eight were netted while one was reported to have gone out on a drinking spree," he said.
Gondwa further said the arrested illegal immigrants had all their passports expired.
"To our surprise, when we questioned them on what they do, they said they were all DJs something police could not believe," said Gondwa.
He advised Malawian residents not to harbuor illegal lags as they might be the ones terrorizing the locations.
"Instead people should report such people to police as proper refugees will always go through proper procedures to grant them permits to stay."
Currently, police are waiting to liaise with officials from the immigration department to issue removal directions on them.
