THE jealous husband claimed his wife of 15 years slept with other men. So he chained the 46-year-old mum of two, Nomvula Mokoena, to her bed. And he ordered his sons aged seven and 12 to stay home and keep men away.
This happened at Sivukile, near Morgenzon, in Mpumalanga last Thursday. Traumatised Nomvula told the People's Paper: "He believes I sleep around with men from the village. When he came home from work last Wednesday, he had a chain and a lock. I had no idea what he planned â€" until Thursday morning."
She said her 48-year-old husband chained and padlocked her to the bed.
"He told my sons not to go to school. They had to stand guard, give me food when I am hungry and a bucket to relieve myself," she said.
On Thursday afternoon, the boys stopped a visiting neighbour at the gate.
"They told me their mum was tied up and couldn't be seen," said the neighbour, who didn't want to be named. I thought it was a joke. But the younger one insisted. He said his father did it," she said.
So she called the cops and they found Nomvula chained to the bed. Constable Nosipho Tshabalala said cops fetched the man from work and he unlocked his wife. "We arrested him on kidnapping charges," said Tshabalala.
