A close friend of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has been ordered to stop the construction of a R200-million mansion in Ballito, northern Durban, until his building plans have been approved.
Durban High Court judge Dhaya Pillay issued the order against Robert Mhlanga yesterday.
The KwaDukuza municipality won an interim order to stop the construction earlier this year.
In his affidavit, Mhlanga, the sole director of Formate, said he had not intended to flout the law and that the municipality had obstructed the process by preventing his architects from submitting the building plans.
Pillay said she would not ignore the rule of law in favour of commercialism.
