Mugabe and his delegation arrives in Zambia for the Troika Summit

President Robert Mugabe, on Wednesday arrived in Zambia for the SADC Troika Summit, which is expected to review the political and security situation in the region.

Mugabe is accompanied by Finance Minister Tendai Biti, Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa, Minister of Transport Communications and Infrastructural Development Nicholas Goch, Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Patrick Chinamasa and other senior government officials.

His delegation will join other leaders in Livingstone, Zambia for the Troika Summit, which is expected to deliberate on the status of ratification and accession to the protocols related to the organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation and also receive reports on the political and security situation in the region.

The Troika Summit will also review progress made in the implementation of the Global Political Agreement in Zimbabwe.

The Summit takes place within the context of consolidating the African Agenda, deepening the regional integration efforts and strengthening the regional governance structures of the SADC.

The Troika Summit will be preceded by the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security which discussed political and security situation in the region, debate on matters relating to the consolidation of democracy in the region and considering issues pertaining to the development of SADC's capacity for mediation, conflict prevention and preventative diplomacy.

The summit will be attended by the Chairperson of the Organ for Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation (Organ), President Rupiah Banda of Zambia, South African President Jacob Zuma and President Armando Guebuza of Mozambique.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his delegation are also expected to attend the summit.
