Zimbian President officially opens SADC Troika Summit

The SADC Troika Summit held in Livingston, Zambia was officially opened on Thursday by the Chairperson of the organ on Politics Defence and Security, President Rupiah Banda of Zambia.

President Banda said while the region has continued to enjoy peace and stability there is need to urgently address certain political tensions in the region through mechanisms as the SADC electoral advisory council which is the mediation reference group for the region.

He urged SADC leaders to consolidate democracy through establishment of institutions that uphold good governance through various international laws and conventions under the African Union and United Nations.

The summit is expected to receive a report from the ministerial committee of the organ and focus on critical points relating to the political and security situation in the SADC region.

SADC mediator on Madagascar and former Mozabican President Joaquim Chisano, is expected to present a report on the political situation in that country while South African President, Jacob Zuma is expected to present his report on the political situation in Zimbabwe as SADC mediator on Zimbabwe's Global Political Agreement.
