A Zimbabwean who bolted from a Botswana prison a week ago is still on the run.
Amos Moyo escaped from Molepolole Prison together with seven others. Four have been captured while the rest are still to be found. Moyo had been charged with raping a Botswana woman.
A senior officer at Molepolole Prisons was quoted on Botswana Television saying the inmates used a pipe to escape from the prison and are considered dangerous to the public. All the inmates are facing a charge of escaping from lawful custody together with their current cases which are still before the courts.
A search team comprising prisons intelligence unit and other security organisations is hunting for the escapees.
In an interview, Botswana Prisons Service spokesperson Senior Superintendent Wamorena Ramolefe said since the latest arrest last week in Mogoditshane Block 9, the team has not yet arrested the other escapees.
"Each day that the inmates were missing in prison will be added to their sentence," said Ramolefe.
He further said their officers are working around the clock to arrest the inmates, who might prove a menace to members of society. He, however, remained tightlipped with details, asserting that they would only give more information when investigations are complete.
