CAPE TOWN - South African President Jacob Zuma on Thursday said South Africans need to build a more caring society in which the rights of all are respected.
Zuma led the launch of an awareness campaign about rape at Glendale Secondary School in Mitchell's plain this (Thursday) morning.
The South African Government, in partnership with Lead SA has taken the Stop Rape campaign to schools.
Zuma said more than 64,000 cases of rape were reported to the country's police last year.
He said SA government and Lead SA have come together with one voice to stop these horrendous attacks.
Zuma also said the country's courts are already dealing harshly with those found guilty of sexual violence.
He said the fight against the scourge has been bolstered by the reintroduction of the police's family violence and sexual offences units last year.
