Cape Town - Three of the five people accused of selling a young girl for sex in Cape Town have been granted bail, it was reported on Friday.

The Daily Voice reported that the Cape Town Magistrate's Court released Marantha Lotrict, 28, Evelina Fortuin, 30, and Denise Muller, 33, on R500 bail each.

The State had requested on Thursday that bail be set at R5 000 each.

The 14-year-old girl told a school friend and a teacher in November that she was being sold for as little as R20 to men, allegedly by her mother, Lotrict, Fortuin and Muller.

The four, as well as the mother's partner, have been charged with sexual exploitation, human trafficking and living off the proceeds of immorality.

The mother and her partner remain in custody.

Lotrict wept outside the courtroom after being granted bail.

"I'm not guilty. I never sold that girl for sex," she told the newspaper.

The case would resume on 19 March.
