Eight South African policemen accused of dragging and killing a Mozambican taxi driver Mido Macia are back in court on Monday as their bail hearing resumes.
The men were arrested over a week ago and charged with murdering Macia. The taxi driver was dragged behind a police van after officers apparently ordered him to move his vehicle which was illegally parked in Daveyton. He later died in a holding cell.
The dragging was recorded on a cellphone by a bystander.
The men appeared in the Benoni Magistrate's Court for the first time last week. They pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.
The state is expected to submit affidavits from Daveyton residents who saw police dragging the Mozambican national when the bail hearing resumes.
The state has also indicated it will oppose bail and that it is prepared to call witnesses to the stand to prove why the policemen should stay behind bars.
The matter is being heard as a schedule five offence.
Macia's body was taken back to Mozambique at the weekend.
