Odinga concedes defeat

Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga says he accepts the Supreme Court's verdict that upholds the election of Uhuru Kenyatta as Kenya's next president.

Odinga, who challenged the validity of Kenyatta's win, told reporters after the court ruling on Saturday that he wished Kenyatta well and urged Kenyans to remain peaceful.

He said it was unfortunate that some of his legal team's evidence had been disallowed by the court. This, he said, means that "in the end Kenyans lost the right to know what happened" in the counting of votes.

Kenyatta was declared the winner on March 9 with 50.07 percent of the vote, narrowly avoiding a runoff election against Odinga. Odinga's legal team argued at the Supreme Court that Kenyatta improperly boosted his votes to avoid a runoff election.
