Johannesburg - Former South African president Nelson Mandela will receive the Freedom of the City award from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Wednesday.
"The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be bestowing its highest honour on the international political giant it is named after, Dr Nelson Mandela, on Wednesday [27 April] at a special Freedom Day celebration that will be held at the Vuyisile Mini Square," the city said in a statement on Sunday.
The Freedom Day celebrations will start with a parade, with Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile and "several other dignitaries", from Russell Road to Vuyisile Mini Square.
The parade to start at 08:30 will be led by the South African Police Service Band.
The parade will be followed by "opening devotions", the singing of the national anthem by the Eastern Cape children choir, youth choir and the SAPS Band.
Mandela's granddaughter, Ndileka Mandela, will receive the award on her grandfather's behalf.
