Nato air strike damage Gaddafi's compound
25 Apr 2011 at 07:14hrs | Views
Nato air strike flattened a building inside Muammar Gaddafi's Bab al-Aziziyah compound early on Monday, in what a press official from Gaddafi's government said was an attempt on the Libyan leader's life.
It is believed the main target of the blast was office buildings and much of the devastation seems to have been caused to a structure where the Libyan leader welcomed the African Union peace mission representatives recently.
Three television stations went off the air in the immediate aftermath of the attack, but service quickly resumed.
Colonel Gaddafi's supporters have gathered at the site in protest to what they describe as a personal attack on their leader.
They have threatened to ignore Nato advice to clear the area and will form what is effectively a human shield for the compound.
