Johannesburg - Former ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema was released on a warning after appearing in court on charges of assault, the Sowetan newspaper reported on Friday.

It was alleged that Malema assaulted Kgotsofalo Mogorwane and Samuel Matome Mafokwane on Sunday at Roomers Shisanyama where he was a DJ.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said: "He wanted to leave the venue and his car was parked in. He then allegedly slapped the two victims."
Magistrate Simon Matshaba postponed the common assault case to 2 July.
Malema will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on 20 June on charges of fraud, corruption, money laundering, and racketeering.
