Former South African president Nelson Mandela is unresponsive and his immediate family is now discussing whether to withdraw treatment, a UK publication claimed Saturday.
The 94-year-old has been in hospital for two weeks battling a recurring lung infection, but previous statements have indicated that Mr Mandela's health is improving.
According to a source to Daily Mail , Mr Mandela's liver and kidney functions are down to 50 per cent and he has not opened his eyes for days.
On Friday, Mandela's grandson Ndaba Mandela was quoted in The Star as saying the ailing former statesman was expected to be discharged "soon".
Scores of journalists remained outside the Pretoria hospital where Mandela was spending his 15th day on Saturday.
