LUSAKA - Former U. S. president George W. Bush arrived in southern Zambia's Livingstone city on Friday for his private visit in which he is expected to conduct a number of charitable works, local media reported.
The former U. S. leader's plane touched down at Harry Mwanga Nkhumbula International Airport around 9:00 a.m. local time and was met by senior Zambian government officials, according to the Zambia Watchdog, a local online publication.
This is Bush's third trip to this southern African nation. He last arrived here in 2011.
Bush, who will be in Zambia up to Monday next week, is expected to help in refurbishing a clinic that will help detect and treat cervical cancer.
The former U. S. president, who is accompanied by his wife Laura, will work with Zambian officials and other volunteers to refurbish the clinic in support of the Pink Red Ribbon Initiative that seeks to expand critically needed cervical and breast cancer interventions, according to the Zambian Watchdog.
