The MDC-T Secretary for Information and Publicity Johannesburg Branch Alice Mhlanga attempted committing suicide at a Johannesburg flat on Thursday evening.

Reports coming from Johannesburg indicate that Mhlanga generally didn't look so well the whole day and could not explain to worried friends what was troubling her. The source indicates that shortly after she parted ways with friends going into her flat she post through a Facebook update bidding fairwell to all her friends and relatives.

"To all my beloved friends, i would like to inform and bid farewell to u all, am dying. Lovies. Alice." Read the Facebook update sent through just before 6 pm. This prompted her friends and colleagues in the MDC T to rush to her flat and stop her from the pending suicide. She is reported to have been rescued from her intended action by fellow MDC T Sekai Sithole who was around her flat and rushed quickly to her.

Several friends and fellow MDC T supporters around the world were quick to send solidarity messages to her Facebook page trying to discourage her from the action. Most were reporting trying to call her but her phone was not being answered. Panic was finally stopped by the party's South Africa Province Youth Organising Secretary Shelton Chiyangwa who posted two hours later that the leader was fine and in the company of other party members. "I spoke to her she's now ok and in the company of
leader Sekai (Sithole) and Bongani Mathe. I can safely say all is well and that we must continue to pray for her." read the post. "Leader Alice is stronger than all the challenges she might have been facing, and I know with God
she will overcome and bring the devil to shame." added Chiyangwa suggesting the leader is going through some personal problems.

Several Zimbabweans have died through suicide in South Africa apparently due to the harsh economic conditions they find themself exposed to in that country. Also top on the list of causes for suicide by Zimbabweans in South Africa is domestic disputes that arise in the "marriages" for convenience known as masihlalisane amongst Zimbabweans in South Africa. The most popular suicide means used by Zimbabweans especially in Johannesburg is by jumping to death from the sky scrapping flats where most Zimbabweans live.
