A 25 year-old man was shot and robbed of R400,000 ($40,000) after withdrawing the cash from a bank at Fourways mall, north of Johannesburg, on Friday.
The man, said to be Zimbabwean, had driven to his sister's home in Fourways after withdrawing the cash and was shot in his sister's driveway.
"He was accosted by suspects as he walked towards his car. They shot at him and got away with the cash," said police spokesman Warrant Officer Balan Muthan.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment.
Muthan said it was not clear how many people were involved in the robbery.
But police have confirmed investigations will seek to establish whether a bank employee may have tipped the gang of robbers.
Meanwhile, two weeks ago, another Zimbabwean man was shot four times in Botswana after asking his employer for payment. Gift Ncube, an immigrant working in Botswana, was shot four times, resulting in the breaking of both his arms which have to be amputated.
His employer, identified as Keitumetse Khunowu, is said to have lost his temper when Ncube asked to be paid his dues. Ncube had just finished clearing two hectares of land.
"I am finished, it would have been better if he had just killed me because now I cannot do anything for myself," said a distraught Ncube.
According to Ncube, the agreement was that he would receive $460 upon clearing the bushy area. However, Ncube claims Khunowu only paid him $22 after completing the job, telling him to "go to hell".
