A 48 year-old Zimbabwean appeared in a Botswana court yesterday to face a single count of rape.

It is alleged that the man raped his 13 year-old stepdaughter at Monarch between December 26, 2013 and January 2014. "Investigations in the case are still ongoing," the prosecutor in the case, Mbatshi Mafa, said.

He submitted that the accused be remanded in custody because he did not have a passport.

The accused told the court that he did not have any defence to the charge he was accused of.

Principal Magistrate, Dumisani Basupi, remanded him until January 31 when he will appear in court again.
