A consignment of newspapers for a private Zimbabwean weekly has been destroyed after a truck carrying the copies was involved in an accident in South Africa, the publisher said Thursday.
Wilf Mbanga, publisher and editor of The Zimbabwean said the truck carrying copies of this week's issue of paper to Harare for distribution in Zimbabwe was involved in an accident on Wednesday in South Africa.
"The driver sustained minor injuries and has been discharged from hospital. The truck was extensively damaged and most of the copies of the paper were destroyed as the truck rolled several times," Mbanga said.
He said the accident meant that the paper would not be available on newsstands inside Zimbabwe this week while arrangements have been made to deliver copies to subscribers on Friday.
The newspaper is normally sold on Thursdays.
