Four Zimbabweans were arrested in South Africa following a police raid on Tuesday that saw 60 other people being picked up for committing a spate of robberies in that country.

According to Limpopo police's Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, South African police arrested 64 people, including four Zimbabwean nationals wanted for two armed robberies.

Their names are still being withheld as investigations continue.

The 64 suspected criminals were arrested in Polokwane during a raid in an operation dubbed "Operation Clean-up" at Greenside and surrounding areas.

"The four Zimbabwean nationals have been on the police's radar for some time and were sought for two armed robberies.

"The items recovered during the operation included 37 rounds of live ammunition, a box full of dagga, stolen groceries, cigarettes, a computer, a printer, radio and an assortment of construction tools such as a grinder and a saw," he said.

The goods were valued at about R60 000.

Brigadier Mulaudzi said those arrested were expected to appear in court soon, on charges ranging from armed robbery, being in the country illegally, dealing in dagga, possession of suspected stolen property and illegal possession of ammunition.
