Johannesburg - A woman from Humansdorp has been arrested after allegedly attempting to poison her 2-year-old daughter, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.
The woman's fiancé allegedly saw her mixing insecticide into the child's milk bottle on Tuesday morning, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.
He grabbed the bottle before she could begin feeding the child. She also allegedly struck the child with the blunt edge of a knife on Saturday.
Naidu said the injuries were visible on the child's upper lip. The woman allegedly said she reacted this way because she was angry with her fiancé. The man was not the child's biological father.
The 24-year-old woman would appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of attempted murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
