Port Elizabeth, South Africa - Eighteen people were arrested for public violence in Motherwell after allegedly stoning police because they were unhappy about housing, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
Residents gathered illegally at a stadium in Motherwell 11 on Sunday afternoon, Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu said.
They claimed that houses they had been waiting for were given to people not on a waiting list.
"Leaders were called aside to address the problem...they incited the community to remove other occupants from certain houses.
"After negotiations with the police they failed to comply with the resolutions taken and engaged in incitement to public violence and threw stones at the police."
