Zulu King marries 6th wife

ULUNDI - In a wedding fit for royalty, the Zulu monarch married his sixth wife on Saturday.

Swazi princess Zola Mafu joined the Zulu royal family 10 years ago, and has son with King Goodwill Zwelithini.

They formally exchanged vows on Saturday.

Zulu warriors or 'amabutho' put on a showcase of traditional song and dance.

He may be 66 years old, but the Zulu king showed he is also in good shape.

His performance impressed the more than 5,000 guests who packed the Ulundi soccer stadium.

The bride was accompanied by an entourage of Swazi maidens.

After the traditional ceremonies were completed, a judge married the royal couple.

The king's five other wives attended the ceremony.

Among the high profile guests were President Jacob Zuma,  Inkatha Freedom Party leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi, provincial premier Senzo Mchunu, and ANC veteran Winnie Madikizela Mandela.

The proceedings took place under the watchful eye of Zulu regiments and police.

The new bride, 27-year-old Zola Mafu, will live at the official Ulundi residence with her 10-year-old son,  Prince Nhlendla Zulu.
