AFTER his wife's traumatic abduction and repeated rape, the Sowetan reveals that a South African man and a father of two has taken indefinite leave to give her the support she needs.
The victim, a social worker dealing with rape victims, was allegedly kidnapped and repeatedly raped by 21-year-old Cyril Mokoena at the weekend.
The husband, who works outside the KZN province, said yesterday he decided to take leave because "she was a victim of crime and she needs my support more than anybody's".
He said if he had his way he would kill the suspect. "But I am the kind of man who lives in a country with laws and I abide by those laws," he said, adding that he was optimistic justice would be served for his wife and other rape victims.
He said he would "walk side by side" with her on the "thorny journey".
He also praised his wife for bravery.
"For her to be able to contact police under the nose of a man armed with a bush knife was brave and I will always cherish her for that," the husband said.
The victim called police from the boot of the car while her abductor was driving.
