Illegal immigrants detained at SA police station

BENONI - Neither Home Affairs nor the police appear to be taking responsibility for the apparent lengthy detention of hundreds of foreigners.

There are reports that they are being held at the Benoni police station -- for far longer than the stipulated 48 hours.

Some illegal migrants have been detained at this police station for more than a month.

Rights groups say it's a clear violation of the law, which stipulates suspects can only be held in custody without being charged for a maximum of 48 hours.
