The Migrant workers association is in the process of assisting thousands of Zimbabweans who applied for the Zimbabwe Dispensation project in 2010 but have their permits still pending.

According to the South African Home Affairs there are over 30 000 applicants who were either rejected or have their permits pending to date.

The list also includes those who did not receive their permits because of technical errors by the department or were rejected due to various reasons such as failure to produce basic documents required such as passport or employment confirmation letters at the time.

However, the department of home affairs has confirmed that all who applied in 2010 including those who were rejected have a chance to re apply this time and regularise their stay in South Africa.  The applicants are urged to produce proof of application in order for them to be assisted. Different civic organisations, MWASA included are currently busy compiling the lists of:

Applicants who applied in 2010 and their permits are still pending
  Applicants who were rejected
Applicants whose records are not found in the system
Applicants sharing the same permit numbers with others

This exercise ensures that DZP permit numbers for all those who applied in 2010 are eventually generated by VSF Global from the data base so as to enable the applicants to submit their applications online.

Speaking to Bulawayo24 News Gilbert Mabhena-Moyo from Peace and Democracy Projects urged all those who are affected to visit the organisations assisting people in the Zimbabwean Special Permit programme such as Migrant Workers Association South Africa (MWASA) and get assistance.

"It's a pity that most Zimbabweans who did not get their permits have already thrown in the towel without exhausting all the available channels. The truth of the matter is Zimbabweans still have 29 days to apply for the Zimbabwe Special Project and I there for urge them to approach MWASA and other organisation in their reach, so that they are not left out," Mabhena-Moyo said.
