Diaspora welcomes MDC reunification

The MDC SA Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) met at the weekend in Johannesburg and took note of the reunification agreement between the MDC and the MDC Renewal which was recently signed. It welcomed the reunification agreement and commended the negotiating teams on managing to put such an agreement together.
It would like to publically declare that it is 100% behind these efforts to unite like-minded formations, noting that the mood amongst the branches has been encouraging and that many Zimbabweans in South Africa welcome these developments and that there is renewed energy in the branches.
Notwithstanding that, it acknowledged that there is much work needed to achieve the goals of the MDC at the people's convention in 1999, that the formations recommitted themselves to in this reunification agreement. Consequently the PEC discussed and put together a working plan to implement the reunification agreement.
The PEC also committed itself to recruiting and building on the current momentum to mobilize Zimbabweans in South Africa.
The PEC also noted recent developments in Zimbabwe, particularly the continued stagnation of the economy and the inability and lack of direction of the current ZANU-PF government in resolving the urgent needs and pleas of the people of Zimbabwe, and therefore resolved to intensify its recruitment and mobilization drives.
The PEC is of the view that it has become abundantly clear that the solution to our problems as a country will not come from this government, and therefore there is a need for all Zimbabweans including those in the diaspora to take part in shaping their destiny.
We consequently invite Zimbabweans in South Africa to join us in their numbers and help shape their destiny.
