JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police on Monday confirmed several foreign-owned shops were looted in Thembelihle in Lenasia, EWN reported.

Residents were protesting since earlier in the day over poor service delivery.

Several roads were blocked off with burning tyres and rocks.

Earlier police used teargas to disperse the protesters.

No injuries have yet been reported.

The police's Kay Makhubela says police have been deployed to the area to monitor the situation.

"We understand that there's another group inside Thembelihle which is looting foreign shops. We are trying to check what is actually happening. So far no one has been arrested and no injuries have been reported."

In January, Siphiwe Mahori was shot dead in Doornkop, he was allegedly among a group of boys who robbed a foreign owned shop.

Following his death, residents went on a looting spree in the area.

The looting quickly spread to other areas.
