Police in Francistown Botswana are reportedly investigating a case in which a middle-aged Zimbabwean woman died, amid reports that she was trying to abort her five-month-old pregnancy.

This was confirmed by Superintendent Motsholathebe Mothibi of Kutlwano Police Station who said after the tragic incident, his officers were called to the scene in Block 11, in the early hours of Monday morning.

"When officers arrived at the scene, the lady, whose identity is not yet known, was rushed to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital for immediate medical attention," he said.

However, doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.

Mothibi refused to speculate on the cause of death, explaining that police investigations to establish what happened are ongoing.

"Preliminary police investigations have established that the deceased was asthmatic," said Mothibi.

However, information reaching The Voice is that the deceased drank a herbal concoction obtained from a friend, with the intention of terminating her five-month-old pregnancy.

But according to an eye witness who did not want to be named, the unfortunate woman did not follow the instructions properly and ingested too much of the lethal concoction.

"She really wanted to terminate the pregnancy at all cost. It is against this backdrop that she had to take an overdose," claimed the witness.
