Former Zambian president Kenneth Kaunda has been admitted in a Namibian hospital after feeling unwell, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Monday.

Dr. Kaunda, who was Zambia's first president and ruled the southern African nation for 27 years, was admitted two days ago after feeling unwell, his daughter Cheswa was quoted as saying.

"He is currently in hospital undergoing some tests but his condition is now stable," she said.

Dr. Kaunda is in Namibia for a holiday with his wife and is reading through the draft of his memoirs which he has written.

But his son, Waza, told the privately-owned Post newspaper, that his father had been in hospital for the last six days and wondered why the government was not aware of his illness.

Waza, who is a medical doctor by profession, said his 87-year- old father has a viral infection, but noted that his condition was now stable.
