WHILE social networks were abuzz about the red carpet being rolled out at the Union Buildings for President Robert Mugabe Wednesday, some media outlets focused on the ageing leader's new hairdo and earrings.
A photo taken at his arrival at Waterkloof Air Force Base yesterday - appearing to show Robert Mugabe with a slightly windswept‚ shoulder-length hairdo and wearing dangle earrings prompted London's Daily Mail to run a headline "I said I need to find a new HEIR!" - alluding to reports that he is grooming his daughter Bona to succeed him.
On Wednesday morning‚ @IanBredenkamp tweeted: "Best photobomb EVER #RobertMugabe #Mugabe #MugabeFalls http://t.co/dS3zYLnFOQ"‚ while @GretVery posted simply "Ms. Roberta Mugabe. #Mugabe".
The picture is likely to gain as much Internet traction as a photo of him taken in February showing him trip on the red carpet on his return to Zimbabwe after being elected as the head of the African Union.
That photo became the basis of countless memes which are said to have embarrassed Mugabe and lead to the sacking of members of his security detail.
