SA deploys army in crime hotspot

Johannesburg - The army will be sent into the Johannesburg township of Alexandra, Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula announced on Tuesday, News24 reported.

Many people on the ground "will appreciate the decision to bring in the defence force", she said.

Mapisa-Nqakula said soldiers would not be taking over the work of police but would be assisting them in maintaining the peace.  

Four men appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for the murder of Mozambican national Emmanuel Sithole at the weekend.
